He nodded. ''My mother and father died long ago as did all my friends. I avoided making any friends so as not to go through th pain of their deaths. I chose you though, to be with me forever if you would like...'' He trailed.

Thea sighed."You realize what adifficult choice that will be--and it's not something I want to face right now." She clasped her hands in her lap, pinching them so that the pain would keep her from breaking her composure by crying."G--go on."

He nodded. ''I could bleed you and you could become a half vampire, That means you could go in the sun and would nly have to drink a little human blood every once in a while. You would age alot slower than usual but faster than I do. " He said with a smile.

"Yes..."Thea whispered."I've read of others like yourself doing that..." For a moment Thea was silent."My father...how will he take it, though? We both try to pretend we don't love each other....but..."

Dimitri gave a slight shrug. ''You could live with me. We would probably stage your death so your father didnt tell the worl dabout me, us.''He replied holding her hand in his.

Thea rested her forehwad on her palm. Speaking behind her wrist, she said quietly."I...guess that could work. What do you have in mind? It will have to be pretty realistic--my father's a smart man--if he suspects I'm not really dead, he'll hound people until he finds out..."Thea trailed off.

He smiled. ''I could...Snap your spine, you wouldnt feel it, I can give you things for pain, and hunger. Then I could give you a medicine that slows the heart so you cant hear it. Do you have stairs in your home?" He said eyes gleaming. He would finally have somone to hold onto,, to love.

Thea nodded."Not our home, exactly, but our apartment's on the 12th floor: If I'm correct in my thinking, you plan for me to fall down the stairs and..."Thea gulped."Break my spine. Good. Even Lucas would believe that."

Thea half-smiled."Perfe--" Her sentence was interupped by her eyelids involuntarily drooping. With a yawn she fell forward to land with her forehead resting on Dimitri's shoulder.

Dimitri caught her in his arms. He smiled. Picking her up he went out of the door and into another. A large queen sized bed lay in the middle of the room with many other furnishings. He pulled back covers and lay Thea down on the bed. He smiled covering her with the covers. He stood leaving the room keeping the door open. He walked to his own room wich had no windows. His coffin wich he prefered to sleep in lay on a stand. He kept the door open incase Thea may need him and he climbed into the coffin.Leaving the lid open he stared up into the darkness.

The next morning Dimitri had awoken breaking his usual pattern of, sleep all day walk at night. He got out of his coffin and walked into Thea's room for the night. He looked at her. So peaceful. The sun shined through the curtains making his sensitive skin prickle. He quietlly left the room walking to the kitchen to make her a nice breakfast. He hoped she liked pancacks, that was all he knew how to make.

Thea sighed in her sleep, her head turning to the right. A single word escaped her lips Christiana
In her dream, Thea is twelve years old again, sitting at the kitchen table in her old childhood apartment, making papier-mâché eggs for the coming Easter celebration. Her mother stands across from her, grating mozzarella cheese for the lasagna they are to have that night Suddenly, A gust of wind flies into the room through the open window—a particularly strong one, for the middle of March. This gale sweeps Thea's hair—which was even redder then—forward into the mushy paper goop she is working with. "Oh, yuck."Thea frowns, picking her hair from the mess. Pasty goop is plasted all over it. Her mother, Christiana, looks over her shoulder at her daughter, a smile playing on her lips. Thea gets her looks from her mother—the woman has hair as dark as night, skin as pale as snow, and eyes that could have stood for two sparkling emeralds. "Then go wash it off, Thea, darling, before it dries!" The twelve year old pouts, but obliges, racing to the tiny bathroom that Thea and her family shared. It is only after Thea has cleaned her dark red locks clear of papier-mâché goo that she hears her mother's screams, the crackle of flames. Thea shoots from the bathroom like a small, red bullet. She sprints to the kitchen to find it engulfed in ruby, orange, and golden flames. Thea's too late to save her mother—Christiana Mirrow's screams of agony fade just as Thea reaches the wall of fire. Thea falls to her kness, sobbing. The smoke does not spare her. It wraps it's dark tendrils around her eyes, her nose, her mouth, suffocating her. Twelve year old Thea screams: yelling for her mother, her father, anyone to come save her… Seventeen yearold Thea was also screaming, thrasing around violently in her queen bed, crying, "Mother!" and "Help!"

Dimitri head the screams and instantly left the batch of pancake he was making. He ran down the hal to the correct door holding the screaming Thea. He burst into the room and was by her side in a flash. ''Thea Darling, what is it? Are you hurt? Is someone here? what?" He asked ignoring the slight sting from the morning sunshine on his skin. His expression was caring and worried.

Thea's eyes flashed open to find herself in Dimirti arms. She heard only the last question--what?, so that was what she answred, blabbering almost inhohernetly(sp?) as tears ran down her cheeks. "My mother-- fire-- oh!" She broke down again, sobbing onto the vampie's shoulder.
