He stood at the curb, staring at the highschool with a rather blank expression on his face. Remembering his days of youth when he went there and all the trouble that had happened once he met Chrono. He stopped going to school, avoided friends... Now he didn't even know where any of those people were. Let alone... if they were alive..
"Seems like it was only yesterday..." he shook his head.

A tall, dark-clothed young woman walked to the large double doors at the school's entrance. In her black-gloved hand a ring of keys shimmered, catching the light from the street lamps. She tried one door, and finding it locked, sighed. "Darn..." Maris whispered as she inserted one of her keys into the keyhole. There was a resounding crack as the thin metal broke in two. The woman sighed once more and rubbed her temples.

He tilted his head, eyeing the woman nearby. Hm.. someone else? I didn't expect that.. the thought crossed his mind as he slowly walked over to her but kept to himself. Watching her contently.

Maris bared her teeth. "Oh, come on! This is the last time I do a favor for that lazy human." She said, trying the handle again. When it didn't budge, she crossed her arms and sighed again.

"Have you tried giving it a good kick, miss?" he asked politely as he took a few steps closer. "A couple swift kicks to it outta make it budge.. or break. Either way would get you inside the gates." Kai chuckled slightly and shook his head at himself.

Maris looked at the man out of the corner of her eye, ever suspicous. "My good man, if I kicked the door, I would most surely break it. And then the school would find some way to make me pay for it...so I believe I will just stick to the classic yelling-and-pouting-until-someone-comes-to-help technique." She replied, and turned around to face him. Her hair was a very, very light blonde, and the color contrasted greatly with the black streaks that coursed through it. Her eyes were a dazzling silver that seemed to glow in the dim light. Maris' full lips were pursed in impatience, but one corner was, strangely enough, turned up in a smile.

"Ah.. That's true, miss. You could just blame it on me, ya know," he chuckled and shook his head slightly. "They'd believe some random guy did it then a lady such as yourself. 'Sides, they see me here a lot so they would just assume it was me anyway." A smile spreading across his face that he couldn't help but show. Kai was always smiling despite the stereotype set for him. Childlike blue eyes and slightly messy blonde hair just added to the immature appearance.

Maris laughed; she couldn't help it, for this stranger was the most charming man she'd met in a long time. "Well, I could do that...but I'm afraid I'm just too honest." She smiled again and held out a black-gloved hand, the one without the key ring in it. "The name's Maris Gwynne."

He smiled and took her hand, shaking it. "Well.. how 'bout I kick it down for you.. then you wouldn't be lying." A smile still spread across his face as he spoke, "I'm Kai Mine. You might have seen my friend Chrono somewhere around here... What do you need to do in the school grounds anyway?"

Maris let go of Kai's hand and raised her eyebrows. " it's nice to meet you, Mr. Mine.My friend, Will, works as a teacher's assitant here...he left his laptop in one of the classrooms, and he was too lazy to come and get it himself." She replied, then smiled again, despite her own wishes. "That would be lovely...I myself would hate to scuff up my boots."

He chuckled, "Then I will scuff mine for you." Kai took a few steps back from her and examined the door as he tried to figure out the best place to kick it. "Here would due..." he lifted his right leg, bending his knee before sending his leg into the door. The wood cracking slightly as it fell from it's bolts. "There you go, miss."

Maris grinned and stepped forward through the empty doorway. She turned to look back at Kai, and a slight blush had arisen on her cheeks. "I hate to intrude upon your kindness further, Mr. Mine, but could you please show me the way to room 309? This is the first time I've actually been inside the school." She said, putting her keys back in her pocket.

"Gladly! I love this place," he smiled sweetly. "This is where I went'ta school," Kai chuckled slightly then walked ahead of her. Moving his head slightly in a notion to say 'this way'.

Maris followed him silently, clasping her black-gloved hands together. "Oh? How old are you, if you don't go to school anymore? 18? 19?" She asked, looking around.

He laughed at that, most people did assume he was about eighteen. For some reason he found that rather humorous. "Nah.. I'm twenty one, actually." There were many reasons for that but that was something he wouldn't explain. Chrono would kill him.
